Monterro, the leading B2B software investor in the Nordics, has acquired a majority stake in Swedish SaaS company PLAYipp. PLAYipp offers a platform for user-friendly, secure management and publication of information from multiple sources to digital screens and digital meeting room bookings. This partnership enables PLAYipp to take the next step in its growth journey and international expansion.

“PLAYipp has an enormous potential. They operate in a growing market with increasing digitization, have highly satisfied customers and partners, strong growth with profitability, and user-friendly products that create customer value,” says Gustav Lagercrantz, CEO of Monterro and future chairman of PLAYipp. “We are very excited to support PLAYipp on their journey ahead.”

Founded in 2006, PLAYipp is headquartered in Gävle, Sweden, with approximately 35 employees. The company offers two products: PLAYipp Digital Signage, which is a platform for publishing information on digital screens, and PLAYipp Rooms, which manages meeting room bookings on digital screens. These solutions can be used on all common types of screens and are currently utilized by more than 2,500 businesses in the public and private sectors. Customers, including organizations like Schibsted, SVT, Samhall, Bonnier, and the City of Malmö, are primarily located in Sweden and Norway, but also in other parts of the world.

The products are highly user-friendly, allowing organizations to communicate with their staff, customers, and other stakeholders efficiently through centrally managed software with high security. The platform also has a wide range of ready-made integrations to other systems. Now, the company is ready to scale up.

“After meeting many potential partners willing to invest and support PLAYipp in its expansion, I am pleased that we ultimately joined forces with Monterro,” says Richard Häll, founder of PLAYipp. “Monterro has a strong offering for a company like PLAYipp, where they, with a fantastic team of highly competent individuals, will support the important efforts needed to make our shared journey with PLAYipp a success.”

Since its inception in 2012, Monterro has helped several SaaS companies expand and grow internationally, such as Lime, Matilda FoodTech, Outpost24, Hypergene, and Lumera.

“We actively work alongside the software companies we invest in, spanning strategy, governance, and operational support, often with a focus on international expansion,” says Gustav Lagercrantz at Monterro. “Moreover, several of us at Monterro have previous experience from successfully leading and scaling up companies with a similar go-to-market model.”

PLAYipp ready for international expansion
The digital signage market is growing, driven by companies and organizations recognizing the value of more dynamic, efficient, and impactful communication. PLAYipp is already the market leader in its niche in Sweden, and with support from Monterro, the company is now poised for international expansion.

“With the support of Monterro’s strategic expertise and experience, we can take the next steps on the journey to becoming the preferred choice for organizations in more markets,” says Henrik Mazzanti, CEO of PLAYipp.

Monterro becomes the majority owner with this acquisition. Previous owners remain as minority shareholders. Richard Häll, the founder of PLAYipp, will continue to take an active role in the company and will join the new board.
