What’s new with PLAYipp hardware support
One of our most important areas in product development is to continuously offer support for new screen types and models. This gives our partners and customers the best possible conditions for publishing content.
Below you’ll see a selection of work already done, as well as what’s in our roadmap for the coming months.
During the summer and autumn we released the following:
More Philips screens – two new models now work with PLAYipp. Model names: Philips 3351t/ 5051t.
Samsung outdoor screens – Perfect if you have screens outdoors, for example at the entrance.
Tizen 8 – This is an update that makes many screens work even better with PLAYipp. Tizen is a system used in a lot of digital screens.
“We work hard to support as many brands and models of screens as possible. Our goal is for you to be able to focus on your content and communication, not sit and wonder whether the screens will work or not. The new player we’re launching later this year is a big step forward to make PLAYipp even more powerful and flexible.“
Thomas Sundgren, CPO at PLAYipp
What we’re working on now
In December we’ll release a new and powerful media player, PLAYPort 4K.
A media player is like the engine that gets your content to display on the screen. The new version will be able to show images and video in 4K quality, and work even better with LED screens or more advanced installations.
This makes it easier for you to create great content without having to worry about your screens not being able to handle it.
Sony screens
We’re also working on adding support for Sony screens. This gives you more options to choose from when buying new screens.

Common questions about hardware for digital signage
Can I use PLAYipp with the screens we already have?
Yes, probably! PLAYipp works with most modern screens from major manufacturers like Samsung, Philips, LG and Sony, and we’re adding more all the time.
If you have older screens or a brand we don’t support yet, we can often find a solution anyway. See the list of screens that work with PLAYipp here.
What’s the difference between a regular TV and a screen for digital signage?
Screens made for digital signage are built to be on all day, every day. They last longer and often have features that make it easier to display content without needing a computer connected to them.
A regular TV works too, but isn’t built to be on around the clock. This can make it break faster.
What does “media player” mean for digital signage?
It’s the media player that gets your content to display on the screen. Think of it as a small engine inside the screen or a separate box that connects to the screen.
Most digital signage screens already have a built-in media player. If you have an older screen or a regular TV, you can use PLAYipp’s own media player “PLAYport HD” instead.
Do I need to buy new screens to use PLAYipp?
Nope, not if you already have modern screens. We’re constantly working to make PLAYipp work with as many existing screens as possible.
If you’re buying new screens, we can help you choose the right model that fits your needs and budget.
What is 4K and do I need it for my digital screens?
4K means higher image quality, about four times sharper than regular HD. It simply looks nicer, especially on large screens or if you stand close.
Do you need it? It depends. If you have large screens or want to show detailed images and videos, it can be worth it. For regular internal communication on smaller screens, HD is often enough.
Does PLAYipp work with LED screens?
Yes it does! Plus, our new media player coming later in 2025 is made to handle even more advanced LED installations!
Can I use digital signage screens both indoors and outdoors?
Yes, but you need the right type of screen for outdoor use. Those screens are built to handle weather and temperature changes.
