The challenge of engaging and informing students
The traditional methods of displaying meal information in schools, through posters and notice boards, resulted in extra work and were challenging to keep relevant. Johanna reflects on this challenge: “We found ourselves seeking a solution that didn’t just inform but also inspired and engaged our students.”
A dynamic solution for school cafeterias
In their quest for a dynamic approach, Mölndal City opted for PLAYipp digital signage. These digital screens, installed in the school cafeterias, enable the presentation of visually engaging content about school meals alongside the menu for today and tomorrow, updating automatically. “The digital screens have transformed the cafeteria into a more educational space,” Johanna Lundström explains.
From paper chaos to digital order
The adoption of PLAYipp and digital screens significantly reduced the need for paper-based communication. The info screens also raise student awareness about school meal-related issues, such as food waste, climate impact, and student influence on meal choices. Kitchen staff have contributed ideas, ensuring the screens are regularly refreshed with new content.
”The screens have enabled us to communicate with students in a creative and efficient manner. We can now share important and educational content in a way that grabs their attention”
Johanna Lundström, communicator at Mölndal City
Next steps in digitization
Johanna is optimistic about the future, seeing vast potential to further develop and expand the use of digital signage. Plans are underway to integrate social media feeds from the school kitchens and to tailor content more closely to the needs of the schools, promising a bright future. Johanna encapsulates the vision: “We recognize the potential to enhance these digital tools to improve communication further and create an even more engaging and educational environment for our students.”
